On February 16, 2021, Rodriguez posted a short snippet of the song on her Instagram with the caption "a tease just 4 u 🥰🎶".[3]
On May 1, 2021, Rodriguez teased the lyrics and title on her Instagram with the caption "billion dollar baby".[4]
On May 28, 2021, Rodriguez posted a photo on her Instagram with the caption "new shit soon".[5] On June 14, 2021, she posted on her Instagram with the caption "soon 🐸", including a behind the scenes photo of the music video shoot.[6]
Finally, on August 1, 2021, she posted a snippet of the instrumental and some footage of the music video, and announced the title to be "Billion Dollar Bitch" and the release date to be August 12.[1]
On August 12, 2021, the song was released, and she revealed that the music video would be released on August 13 on her Instagram.[2]

During an interview with Ones to Watch, Rodriguez commented on the song, stating that while writing this she "wanted to feel like a Billion Dollar Bitch.
